Since the 1970s international environmental law has evolved substantially. Different generations of instruments have been adopted and various legal techniques have been resorted to.

The present course will concentrate on the notions and principles applicable in this field in light of the case law of courts and tribunals. It will also discuss the instruments dealing with biodiversity, climate change, chemical pollution and fresh water. Lastly, issues of compliance and financing will be addressed.
